Skirts for girls

Skirts for my girl

To sew a skirt for a girl, you don’t need to have the skills of a high-class dressmaker. Sewing a skirt for a girl is quick and easy.

Surely you have had situations when you urgently needed to sew a skirt for your daughter for a dance or theater club.

Or maybe you just have a wonderful piece of fabric lying around that you bought a long time ago, and now you don’t know where to put it. Here are a few ways that will help you sew a baby skirt for your daughter in just 15 minutes. These simple and quick methods are available even if you are not an experienced seamstress.

Skirt for little ones "Tatyanka"

Skirt style "Tatyanka"- one of the simplest “skirt” styles.

To sew skirt "Tatyanka" you will need:

elastic band 3 cm wide, fabric and threads

You don't even need to make a pattern for this skirt.

All we need is a rectangular piece of fabric.

The length of the fabric cut should be equal to the length of the skirt + seam allowances (elastic band and finishing of the bottom of the skirt). If a girl is 116 cm tall, then the length of the skirt will be approximately 33 cm, add 7 cm for the allowance, we get 40 cm of fabric needed for the skirt.

The width of the cut should be equal to the circumference of the hips multiplied by 2. And even better, if the width of the skirt (i.e. fabric) is 2.5 times greater than the circumference of the hips. In this case, the skirt will turn out fluffy and beautiful.

The first thing to do is fold the side sections of the fabric facing inward and stitch a seam width of 1 cm. Process the edges.

Then you need to bend the top section of the skirt to the width of the elastic (4cm) and stitch it into a hem, leaving a distance of 1-1.5cm between the beginning and end of the stitching to pull the elastic through.

Using a safety pin, thread the elastic through and stitch the ends together into a ring.

A wide elastic band can be replaced with a regular narrow one. Then the hem of the top edge needs to be made wider and several parallel lines should be sewn along the waistband, each time retreating a little more than the width of the elastic.

The bottom edge of the skirt also needs to be finished with a closed hem stitch. 1 cm wide. Iron the skirt. She's ready!

Such skirts can be sewn for both summer and winter by choosing a warmer fabric.

Watch the video,

which shows how to sew a warm Tatyanka skirt.

Skirt for girls with wide elastic band

You can sew such a skirt for a girl in literally 15 minutes.

You will need:

Wide elastic band, knitted fabric with ruffles.

You can choose any fabric for the skirt, but I recommend purchasing a knitted fabric with already knitted ruffles. Firstly, such skirts for girls are now very fashionable, and secondly, the cut of such fabric does not fray and there will be no need to process the bottom and side seams of the skirt, which will reduce sewing time. This knitted fabric of different colors can be found in any fabric store. The skirt in the photo is suitable for school.

The length of such a fabric when purchased is calculated depending on the number of ruffles that the skirt will have.

The width of the cut should be equal to the circumference of the hips multiplied by 1.3. If you take regular fabric (without ruffles), then multiply the hip circumference by 2.

First we sew the elastic sections together. We process the edges so that they do not fray, do not unravel and are neat in appearance.

Then we sew the side sections of the fabric facing inward. Be careful that the edges of the ruffles must match. Fabric like the one in the photo does not need to be processed.

Then we pin the upper edge of the skirt to the elastic, evenly gathering and distributing the fabric. To be sure, you can sew the fabric to the elastic “live.” All that remains is to sew along the edge of the elastic with a zigzag seam.

A skirt is made for your daughter!

Your daughter will be able to wear this skirt for more than one year. Stretchable elastic band provides room for growth.

Skirt "Sun" for girls

It is believed that sewing a “Sun” skirt is very difficult. But I assure you, it can be done in 15 minutes!

Sewing a “Sun” skirt is very simple if you make it with an elastic band.

Required:

wide elastic band, fabric and decorative braid for finishing the bottom of the skirt.

We calculate the length of the cut as follows: (length of the skirt from the waist + 2cm + R) multiplied by 2.

R = hip circumference: 6

The length of the wide elastic band is waist circumference minus 5cm.

The braid is about 4 meters. Depends on the length of the skirt.

Skirt "Sun" with elastic

Next, fold the fabric four times, carefully measure the required distance from the corner that ends up in the center of the fabric. To prevent the fabric from moving, pin it together. Cut it out. We process the resulting sections (inner-top of the skirt and outer-bottom of the skirt) so that the fabric does not fray.
Then, we grind down the edges of the elastic. And we sew the skirt fabric to the elastic band, (same as in the previous version) having previously secured them with pins or basting.

The bottom of the skirt was left unfinished. I must say that it is not so easy to hem the bottom edge of the “Sun” skirt. Therefore, it is better to use a different edge processing method. A decorative braid chosen to match the tone or contrast of the fabric is suitable for this. You just need to sew it from the front side onto the finished edge of the bottom of the skirt.

This is a good way to sew summer skirts for girls from silk and light fabrics.
This is the easiest way to sew a full skirt for a girl. There is no zipper and no side seams, so sewing time will take no more than 15 minutes.

But if desired, such a skirt can be made in two layers by hemming another layer of thin fabric inside.

You can combine colors: The top layer of the skirt is multi-colored - the bottom layer is plain, the top layer is dark (bright) - the bottom layer is light.

Summer skirt for girls "Country"

To sew such a skirt you will need jeans, or denim shorts, or a denim skirt and a piece of light fabric with a pattern.

Of course, hardly anyone would want to sew such a skirt on purpose, but if you have damaged jeans or a denim skirt, then the top from them may well give life to a new idea.

The amount of fabric depends on how long you want the skirt to be and how tightly gathered it is.

First, cut the top of the jeans to create a yoke.

We cut out the lower part of the skirt from bright fabric. You may end up with one or two side seams. Stitch and sew the skirt fabric to the top. Then we process the bottom edge. The lower part of the skirt can be made of several layers. photo 2.

As you can see, sew a skirtfor girl not difficult at all

And finally,

look at the version of a skirt for a girl that doesn’t even need to be sewn!

This tutu skirt will delight any little princess.

You will need:

  • Approximately 50 rectangular pieces of soft tulle or mesh
  • Elastic band for clothes (waist circumference minus 5 cm)
  • Satin ribbons, bows, fabric flowers

We cut the tulle into rectangles.

Width 20cm. Length = skirt length x 2 +3cm

Tulle is easily cut in bulk. You can cut 10 layers at once.
First of all, we sew the elastic band (you can simply tie it in a knot) and put it on the back of the chair.

Then we take tulle ribbons and tie them with an elastic band. You can tie it in several ways:

1. With a regular double knot.

2. Fold the tulle strip in half. Wrap the elastic band around and thread the ends through the resulting loop. Tighten, but not too tight.

3. Or you can not tie it at all, but use a stapler. Wrap the ribbon around the elastic, squeeze it and staple it under the elastic. It will take skill, the main thing is to fasten each ribbon separately so that the skirt can easily stretch.

You can use tulle of several colors and alternate them. The skirt will be more fun if you decorate it with satin ribbons, bows or flowers.

If you make such a white skirt, then we can say that your “Snowflake” costume for the New Year is ready.

If you make such a skirt a little longer, attach satin ribbon straps and tie it with a belt, you will get a wonderful dress. This is the easiest way to make a New Year's costume from tulle for a fairy.

Don't be afraid to invent and add something of your own. Be sure to sew and knit something for your children. A skirt for a daughter, a hat or scarf for a son. Children should have at least one thing knitted or sewn by their mother’s caring hands.

Many mothers love to sew their own clothes for their children. And this is no coincidence. Sewing children's clothes takes very little time, but in this way you can convey your love to your child. In addition, hand-sewn clothes will be unique and inimitable! Sewing clothes for children is very easy and enjoyable. Another proof of this statement is the pattern we offer for a skirt with an elastic band for a girl, which you can model yourself and subsequently sew for your little princess.

Despite its simplicity, the charm of this elasticated skirt is given by the soft peach color and the flirty white flower that is sewn at the waist. We recommend using thin cotton poplin or other natural fabric that drapes well.

To begin construction, you need to take measurements

We take 2 measurements - hip circumference and skirt length from the waist. Next, we proceed directly to constructing the drawing.

Constructing a pattern

Fig.1. Drawing of a skirt pattern with an elastic band

The pattern given above is laid out on the fabric in one layer and cut in the form of a rectangle. The only seam is the middle seam along the back. If for some reason you can’t cut it with one seam, you can make seams on the sides.

Draw a rectangle with a width equal to the hip circumference according to your measurement, multiplied by 2 and a length according to your measurement + 4 cm for processing the top of the skirt.

Advice: The skirt can be made shorter or longer, depending on your desire.

Cut the skirt in one layer, add 1 cm to the seams on all sides, 2.5 cm on the bottom. Additionally, cut out 2 oblique strips of fabric for ties: 3 cm wide and 20 cm long each.

How to sew a skirt with an elastic band for a girl

Baste and stitch the seam along the back of the skirt. Iron and process seam allowances. According to the marking, make a slotted loop on the front side for threading the elastic. Turn the allowance for processing the top to the wrong side, turn it under and stitch, departing 2.5 cm from the top edge of the skirt. Place another line 1.5 cm below the first - you get a drawstring for threading the elastic.

IMPORTANT! The slotted loop must be located exactly in the center of the drawstring!

Fold the bottom of the skirt and stitch it.

Fold the strips for the ties in half and stitch along the long sides, turning them inside out. Cut the rubber band to the required length, first wrapping it around the girl’s waist and pulling it a little. Sew a sewn tie to one end of the elastic. Thread the elastic into the drawstring, adjusting the length so that the elastic is not visible from the loop, and sew a second tie on the other end of the elastic. Tie knots at the free ends of the ties.

Try on the skirt, adjust the length of the elastic by tying the strings in a knot. Thread the ends of the ties into the upper holes of the flower, cross them, and thread them into the lower holes. If necessary, secure with a knot.

Using a compass, draw a circle with a radius of 3 cm. Inside the circle, draw 8 round petals. Cut out a flower from white leather or leatherette. Use a hole punch to make 4 holes. The flower is secured with criss-cross ties.

Children's full skirts are now in great demand and popularity. Little fashionistas in such skirts can fully feel like princesses.

In such clothes, children are very beautiful, bright and cute. A girl in a voluminous skirt attracts attention and is the center of attention, so no young beauty will refuse to have such a skirt in her wardrobe.

Kinds

Among children's voluminous skirts, the following styles are most popular:

  • Pack. Such a skirt came into the wardrobe of girls and girls not so long ago, before that it served only as clothing for ballerinas. To sew such a skirt, tulle is used, which is sewn to the belt in several layers. Tutus with several tiers of tulle are also popular. The colors of children's tutu skirts vary greatly, but the most popular are pink, white and red models.
  • American. This cute, playful skirt is made from the finest nylon material that does not require processing. The material is folded into several tiers and complemented with ruffles, making the product look lush, romantic and delicate. The foreign name for such a skirt is pettiskirt. American skirts are decorated with bows, flowers, satin ribbons, lace and other elements.
  • Tutu. To create this type of tutu skirt, tulle mesh is used. This skirt is often chosen for celebrations, photo shoots and walks. It is very popular among mothers, because to create a tutu skirt you don’t even need a sewing machine, since in one of the methods of making it, pieces of tulle are simply tied to a belt.

What to wear with it?

Most fluffy children's skirts are presented in festive, elegant options. These skirts are paired with T-shirts (both plain and patterned), shirts (checkered ones are very popular), T-shirts, corsets, tops, turtlenecks and elegant blouses.

Bright plain, transparent or white tights are also selected to complement a fluffy children's skirt. For a walk, you can replace tights with leggings to match your skirt or in a contrasting color. For jewelry, girls choose fabric headbands with flowers, headbands with bows, and discreet jewelry.

How to sew: master class

With frills

Prepare for work:

  • One meter of satin. We will sew a petticoat and a belt from this fabric.
  • One meter of tulle. For a full skirt with frills, we will need material 1.5 meters wide.
  • About ten meters of braids.
  • 50 centimeters of elastic. Its width should be 2.5 cm.
  • Threads to match the future skirt.

To sew you need to do the following:

  • Fold the tulle in half and mark strips on it, the width of which will be 16 cm (15 cm for the strip itself and 1 cm for the allowance). There should be a total of five strips, and each one will be 1.5 meters long.

Cut the tulle into strips and sew them together to create a piece 7.5 meters long.

  • Finish one edge of the tulle piece with bias tape so that the product holds its shape.
  • Sew the edges of the tulle strip to create a circle.
  • Make two lines along the edge that will be sewn to the belt, parallel to each other. The bobbin thread tension should be set to 0.
  • Pull the sewn stitches together to create an overskirt.

  • Cut out a pattern from satin for a sun-shaped petticoat. To do this, the material is folded in four. The radius of the belt for a girl with a waist of 55 cm will be 20 cm. The length of the skirt is also 20 cm. Do not forget to leave 1 cm at the top and bottom to fold the skirt and sew it to the belt.
  • Fold the bottom of the satin skirt and stitch it.
  • Cut out a piece for the belt from satin, which will be a rectangle about 70 cm long and 12 cm wide.
  • Glue the waistband with non-woven fabric.
  • Sew the waistband piece to create a circle, leaving about 2.5 cm of the waistband unstitched so you can thread the elastic in later.

Pin or thread the underskirt to the waistband, making even folds. In the same way, attach the tulle skirt, then sew both skirts to the belt, and then insert an elastic band into the belt.

With ruffles at the bottom

To make such a skirt you will need:

  • A piece of satin for a belt. Its width will be 12 cm, and its length will be two times the girl’s waist.
  • Two pieces of veil with a length of 4 waist circumferences. One of them will be intended for the underskirt, and the second (it will be slightly shorter) will be used for the overskirt. We select the width of the cut depending on the height of the child. We will gather both cuts to create pieces with a length corresponding to two waist circumferences.
  • One piece of veil for the frill of the overskirt. The length of such a cut will be eight waist circumferences, and the width should be 12 cm. The cut should be gathered to obtain a part four waist circumferences long, which is sewn to the bottom of the overskirt.
  • Pink sheer ruffle that will be used to trim the frill sewn to the overskirt. Its width will be about 5 cm.

Currently, schools are quite relaxed about uniforms. They are required to adhere to the rules, wear a school uniform, but there are no strict restrictions; girls can wear skirts, sundresses, blouses, jackets or light sweaters, boys can wear trousers, jackets, shirts, knee socks or light sweaters. Each school has its own charter. Today's master class suggests sewing a skirt for a schoolgirl with your own hands.

To work we need:

Fabric (preferably black or dark gray, dark brown, or checkered fabric)

Sewing machine

Pattern paper

Tape measure

First step. We take measurements: waist circumference, hip circumference, skirt length.

Second step. We are making a pattern. Based on the measurements obtained, we draw the basic pattern without loose fit and without seam allowance. We take a sheet of paper that is 10 cm longer than the waist circumference and 10 cm longer than the length of the skirt.

We retreat 5 cm from the top edge, and put point A, draw a line perpendicular from it, from the side edge. We write - waist line. Below will be the hip line. We measure the bottom line from the waist line.

Third step. Transfer the pattern to the fabric. When cutting, you need to focus on the direction of the grain thread and the weft thread, because fabric stretches differently.

Skirt sun

A-line skirt

The girl will definitely like the sun skirt, and for convenience and greater pomp we will make it with an elastic band. It’s very easy to sew a children’s skirt with your own hands! You just need to sew a belt to the main part and process the bottom.

Sun skirt pattern

The given diagram for constructing a sun skirt pattern is suitable for any age, even for an adult figure (if the gathering at the waist does not bother you).

For example, let’s sew a sun skirt for a girl with measurements:

  • Height- 68 cm
  • From= 46 cm
  • skirt length Du= 22 cm

We have a sun skirt with an elastic band, which means the waist circumference needs to be increased. We double the size to get thick gathers. For a smaller gather density, you can increase the waist by 1.5 times. The thinner the fabric, the more ruffles there can be and vice versa.

Waist radius calculation:
r
= (46*2)/6.28 = 14.6 cm (rounded to 15).

To draw the bottom of the skirt, add the length of the skirt to the small radius (we have 22 cm) and get:
R= 15+22 = 37 cm.

In Fig. 1, for clarity, the pattern is presented in expanded form, in Fig. 2 - folded in four, like paper for a New Year's snowflake.

Sun skirt for a girl - calculation of fabric consumption

Cutting and sewing a children's sun skirt is easy, because the dimensions of its pattern do not exceed the width of the fabric. The skirt is seamless - a circle with a hole for the waist in the middle.

By the way, a small nuance - if you want to sew a sun skirt for your girl for the holiday, change the pattern a little and get an interesting version of an elegant sun skirt with an extension at the bottom.

To do this, you need to take a longer length of the skirt, then draw a circle for the bottom and cut the skirt along this line. Then unfold the skirt and move the waist hole slightly forward, the skirt will have an uneven asymmetrical hem. Before cutting out the waist hole, check how long it will be in the front and how long in the back.

The resulting “tail” can be done from the back or the side. In this case, do the cutting on the fabric folded in half.

So, before buying fabric, do a simple calculation of fabric consumption.

We take measurements of the girl's figure. We calculate the value R(see above), multiply it by 2 and add allowances for processing the bottom of the skirt. In our case: 37*2+0=74 cm.

Allowances are zero if the hem of the skirt is finished with bias tape. If there is a hem, then add 1 - 2 cm. In total, we need a square with sides of about 80 cm. That is, in our case, even narrow fabric will do.

The main principle of a seamless sun skirt is that the calculated value does not exceed the width of the fabric.

On the waistband, the fabric will remain on the side (if the fabric is large). If the fabric is narrow, add twice the width of the waistband plus 2 cm seam allowance to the calculation. The length of the belt can be equal to the top cut of the skirt (this option is easier to sew) or less than this cut, but greater than the waist circumference (then the skirt will have to be gathered before attaching the belt.

How to sew a sun skirt

We connect the belt part into a ring, leaving the hole for threading the elastic unsewn. Fold the waistband in half lengthwise and iron it. All that remains is to connect it with the skirt and insert the elastic.

The length of the elastic depends on its softness - usually 10% less than the waist circumference, but it is better to check when trying on.

Sun skirts tend to stretch in areas with oblique threads. Therefore, in order for the finished skirt to remain with an even hemline, before processing it, fasten the skirt on hangers by the waist and let it hang for two to three days.

The best way to straighten the bottom of a children's sun skirt is during fitting. We measure the length from the waist, put marks (the more marks, the better). And then, having laid out the skirt on the table, we connect it with a smooth line and cut it off. You can do this without trying on, by fastening the skirt horizontally to the waist line (for example, to the back of the back of an armchair or stool).

But if the skirt is very small, then there is nothing special to straighten there. So work on the bottom and admire your princess.
