We sew with children: New toys from old socks. DIY soft toys made from socks DIY toys made from terry socks

To prepare a surprise for your child and give him pleasure, you can try together with him and create an original, cute and funny craft from multi-colored children's socks. You can buy an expensive toy or any doll. The toy will amuse and delight the baby, help develop his thinking, teach him what is necessary and good. But it is important to be able to interest the child in a useful, exciting activity. This will bring him pleasure from the work done and close communication with his family. At the same time, you will show your child that a sock can make a unique and cute toy.

Making a craft from socks is easy. The process of work turns out to be fascinating, and the child uses his imagination with great pleasure and tries to make things with his own hands together with his mother, and then without her help. First, the mother needs to make the craft step by step together with the child, so that it is easier for him to comprehend the intricacies of sewing. If parents make such a toy together with their little one, it will be imbued with care and love.

To create a toy from socks with your own hands for beginners, you need: a pair of socks or tights, a needle and thread, scissors, buttons, ribbons, beads, filler (foam rubber or padding polyester) and most importantly - imagination, a little effort and patience, with the help of which, an ordinary the little thing will become an extraordinary craft.

Pleasant trifles

These crafts are not only fun, but also useful. You can make a warm sweater for a tea cup. If the socks are bright or have a pattern, then such a “jacket” does not need to be decorated; it will look cute without it. If the sock is plain, then you can decorate the “blouse” for the mug:

  • embroidery;
  • beads;
  • a flower from another sock, in a contrasting tone.

By the way, flowers from socks are easy to make and look natural and cute. Make a whole flowerbed or a beautiful bouquet that will not wither over time.

You can attach flowers to wooden skewers and place them in a vase. You can also decorate with knitted flowers:

  • photo frame;
  • gift packaging;
  • clothes.

Cut a strip from the sock, fold it in half along its entire length, gather it on a needle and thread and pull it off. Twist the rectangle tied with thread with a roller, secure it at the seam level with a couple of stitches, and you will have a double flower.

We sew a puppy from children's socks

All children love dogs and cats, but not all parents have the opportunity to have a pet in the house. While the child is small, a toy dog would be a good gift for him. You will need:

Place one golf course on the tabletop and level it well. Using chalk, draw on the fabric all the details of the dog - tail, four paws, two ears, body.

Pull the body together with a thread along one edge from the wrong side, turn it inside out and fill it with any filling. Sew the hole from the front edge with a hidden seam. Level the filler well, giving an even shape to the puppy’s body.

Connect all the parts of the product and fill it with filler, sew them to the body. Glue the puppy's eyes and nose - beads or ready-made decorative elements - onto the puppy's face. Tie a bow or collar around the puppy's neck.

Cute little bear

Children love bear cubs for their clumsiness and charm. It won’t be difficult to create such a cute charmer at home. To work you will need:

Flatten the sock on the table surface with the elastic band facing up, with the heel facing you. Using the fabric, make small markings of all the details of the teddy bear and cut them out.

Place the parts in the order of sewing, and if they do not match, then trim them with scissors. Turn the part for the head inside out and sew it with an overcast stitch.

Turn the head blank with stitched ears right side out and fill it with padding polyester.

Also sew the teddy bear's legs using an overcast stitch. Stuff the bottom of the bear with stuffing. Form the relief of the abdomen and paws while stuffing.

Use a thread to tighten the hole in the bear's head along the front side. In the same way as the head, tighten the hole of Mishka’s body with a thread.

Cut a circle from white fabric or felt to model the face of a bear cub. Sew the muzzle circle in place.

Stuff the front paws with stuffing and sew all the parts of the teddy bear. Sew on a nose - a black button, embroider the mouth and eyes of the bear.

Put the bear on a white bib made of fabric.

Cute monkey

To make a funny monkey, you will need a pair of long socks. Two identical blanks or a pair will do, where the sole is a different color from the base. If the socks are black, then that's great. Prepare buttons or plastic eyes.

The sequence of work is exactly the same as when making a puppy. First, fill the tip of the sock with padding polyester or foam rubber until the volume is full. Tie the holes or sew them with thread. The part of the golf to the elastic band, which is best cut off, is divided in two to a length equal to the length of the monkey’s legs.

Sew the resulting parts of the paws with a hidden seam. Through the hole remaining for stuffing, fill the legs and torso with synthetic padding. Sew up the hole.

Cut out the remaining parts of the toy from the second golf course. Make the monkey's face from the heel of the sock. When all the pieces are cut out, stitch them from the wrong side and turn them right side out. Fill the tail and front paws with stuffing. The ears can be left empty by sewing two pieces along the edge. It is better to fill the heel of the sock - the future muzzle - when it is already connected to the head.

Sweep the filling hole last. Mount the finished parts of the toy in the following order:

  • front legs;
  • attach a ponytail;
  • sew on the muzzle.

Use an elastic band from a sock to depict a monkey's headdress.

When everything is ready, glue on the eyes and embroider a smile. If the monkey is a girl, then make a skirt from a bright sock, a headband, a bow, or a curl from an old, loose sweater of the desired color.

Cheerful Snowman

With the arrival of winter and the New Year holidays, everyone remembers winter fun, sledding, and the snow woman. A snowman is a craft that can be made from old socks, and not just from snow. You will need:

Fill the sock three-quarters full with any filling you choose. Tie the edge of the sock near the elastic band with a strong thread. Fold the free edge and glue it to the filled part of the toy using a glue gun so that the resulting cap does not curl.

Tie the snowman's body with a ribbon into 2 parts: the smaller one is the head, the larger one is the body.

Sew buttons to the Snowman's body. Attach a pompom to the hat. Make a face: sew on an orange pompom nose, beads for eyes, embroider a mouth.

Cute bunny

Bunnies are animals that you want to pet and hold in your arms, and you can make one with your own hands. Material required for this:

Lay the golf course on a flat surface with the heel facing up.

Cut the golf from two edges, one side is the ears, the other is the lower legs. Sew the sides of the cut: on one side of the golf - completely, on the other side - leave a hole for filling. Stuff the hare's body with stuffing and sew up the hole.

Cut off the front part from the second golf course. Cut the fabric in half and sew each piece separately. You will get the front legs of a hare. Stuff the paws with filler and sew them to the body. Design the muzzle like this:

  • sew or glue eyes;
  • embroider the mouth and nose of a hare.

Decorate the body of the toy with buttons or beads.

Smart owl

A nocturnal inhabitant of the forest, an intelligent and big-eyed owl, arouses interest in itself. It’s not difficult to make an owl craft and have such a resident at home. You will need:

Lay the sock on the table surface, heel facing you, elastic band facing up. Cut out two sharp owl ears on the elastic band and cut off the free edge. Sew the ears and turn the workpiece right side out. Stuff the body with filler. Sew up the hole in the owl's body with a hidden stitch.

Draw and cut out blanks for eyes, legs and wings on cardboard. Transfer the templates to felt using a chalk and cut out.

You can sew the resulting parts together using a machine. Decorate the outline with a decorative stitch and sew it to the toy. Embroider the beak and pupils or sew on beads.

Hedgehog from an old sock

You will need:

  • One pair of short socks.
  • Spool of thread and needle.
  • Ready-made eyes and nose or beads.

Make a hedgehog's body from one sock. Stuff the sock-torso tightly, the heel is the face of the hedgehog. Sew up the elastic. Divide the torso in half so that the head is the smaller part, and rotate the neck.

Sew the top and bottom parts to each other. It’s okay if the seam turns out to be sloppy, because the thorns will cover the entire back and sides and hide the flaws.

Using a seam, draw in the eye areas and sew on beads or glue on decorative eyes.

Prepare many small pompoms to imitate thorns. Sew pompoms onto the head, then onto the sides and back.

Sew on the arms and legs, cut and sewn from the second sock. The soft, adorable hedgehog is ready.

Wooden horse made from a sock

Many children used to have a horse on a stick. Nowadays you won’t find such a toy, but there is always a way out. Delight your child with a childhood toy. To do this you need:

The horse's head is made from an adult sock. Fill tightly with the filler so that the head does not lose its shape later. Along the top of the head, make a mane using curly yarn from an old sweater, threading it through with a needle. Lay the mane on both sides of the head and secure with thread.

Cut out two identical circles from felt - these will be the eyes. Sew to the head, placing a dark button in the center of the felt.

You can make the horse's nostrils by pinching part of the sock and securing it with a couple of stitches.

Ears: cut out two identical triangles and two smaller ones from colored felt. Fold two different triangles together, sweep along the bottom edge and tie with thread. Make the second ear in the same way. Sew both ears to the head.

Use a strap to make a bridle around the muzzle and sew with thread of a contrasting color. The head for the horse on a stick is ready.

Drill a hole in the stick, place the head on the handle, thread the thread, and carefully wrap the elastic band.

Never throw away small or old socks, first try to give them a second life.

Attention, TODAY only!

You can make such a cute cat from old children's socks that have become too small for your child. Children always like homemade toys, especially funny animals. I hope our sock cat will not be an exception.
The work is not very difficult, children 10-11 years old can handle it independently. The younger ones, of course, will need help.
Our toy will need both socks. From one we will make a body with legs, and from the second a head and tail.

Straighten one toe and place it with the heel facing up. We outline the cutting lines for the front and rear legs, cut along the marked lines.
Now we need to sew the legs. Turn the sock inside out and sew the cuts together. We do not sew up the gap between the hind legs, leaving a hole for stuffing. We specifically used contrasting threads to make the seams stand out in the photo. You can choose the threads by color so that they do not show through on the front side.
We turn the part right side out and stuff the body and paws with filler. For stuffing you can use cotton wool, foam rubber or padding polyester. When finished, we quietly sew the place of the stuffing.
We also lay out the second sock with the heel up and draw the outline of the kitten’s head.
Cut it out, sew it on the wrong side and turn it right side out. We also stuff the head tightly, paying attention to the ears.
We also need a ponytail. We cut it out from the remains of the second sock. You can make a tail from a piece of fur or other fluffy material. It's up to you. We sew the tail and stuff it with filler.
Now let’s design the kitten’s face. You could glue on cardboard eyes and a nose, but we found small black buttons and painted them with yellow and black nail polish. The nose was made from a pink piece of a sock.
From the nose down and to the sides we stitched the line of the mouth. You can make antennae from fishing line, but we didn’t have any suitable material on hand.
When all the parts of the toy are prepared, sew the head and tail to the body. We sew the front legs, indicating the toes.

Our cheerful cat made from socks is ready to play and delight our children.

Kittens are perhaps the cutest animals that all children love without exception. From simple cardboard you can make a kitten with movable parts, which many people also like.

Among the socks, there are often those that are not used, but it would be a pity to throw them away. This happens if the pair of the sock is lost or there is a small hole or wear. Such troubles can be a good reason for creativity. What craft can be made from socks? Everything depends solely on the imagination of the creator.

This article describes ways to create toys, a rug, and even useful household items from socks. These craft ideas and instructions can be a good start for your personal creativity.

List of craft items

To create an unusual craft you will need:

  • socks or gloves;
  • scissors;
  • threads that match the color of the material or, conversely, contrast unusually with it;
  • cotton wool, fabric, sawdust, synthetic fluff, buckwheat - any filler for crafts;
  • markers, felt-tip pens;
  • buttons, large beads.

A set of necessary items is not difficult to obtain. You may not need to intentionally buy more components - just look for everything that has been lying around in the cabinets for a long time.

Socks and gloves can be replaced with any unnecessary item of clothing, but it is important that the material is similar to that from which the socks are made.

You can come up with a variety of original crafts yourself or find detailed instructions on the Internet. Below are examples of some of them.

Colorful rug

This is one of the simplest options for crafts made from socks. To create a rug, you don’t need to cut a sock, just sew a lot of socks together, forming a wavy pattern out of them.

If the rug is not soft enough, you can sew a little cotton wool into your socks. To make it even, it is important to distribute the cotton evenly in the socks.

If you want the mat to also be a massage mat, buckwheat is sewn into the socks. A rug filled with buckwheat is not only a home decoration, but also an incredibly comfortable massager for bare feet.

Pincushion-daisy

This version of the mini-craft is also easy to do:

The sock is cut into two parts. On one there is a bulge for the heel, and on the other there is a part for the toes. You will need a second side.

On the one hand, this part is already round. It is enough to stuff the material with cotton wool and grab the hole with threads - you will get a circle. The stitches should not just sew up the cut, but tighten it, rounding it.

To make the pincushion original, oval petal parts are cut out from the second part of the sock. It would be ideal if there was one more sock or glove so that there were a lot of petals. They are attached with threads to the circle - 5-6 petals and the needle bed in the shape of a flower is ready.

The stitches that attach the petals will add unusualness and brightness - they can be made of contrasting dense threads.

Snowman made from a sock

This master class on crafts from socks is more complicated than the previous one, since it has more parts. In this case, as in the previous one, the part below the heel is used for the base. It is cut off, filled with cotton wool, and the hole is sewn up. After these steps, you should end up with a pear-shaped piece.

Just above the middle, the workpiece is pulled together with an inconspicuous thread so that 2 circles are formed - the lower one is large, and the upper one is small.

The bottom circle is the body of a snowman. It can be decorated with bright buttons or beads. The top one is the head, on which eyes, nose and mouth are made from beads, buttons or using a marker. A toy without a mouth can also look original.

You can tie a scarf from a small piece of fabric around the snowman’s “neck”. And put a hat on your head. The tip of another sock is used as a hat. To ensure that the hat fits properly, the hole is lightly tacked with thread.

Owl toy

The instructions on how to make this craft from socks with your own hands are not complicated.

The sock is turned inside out. Everything except the part above the heel will be used. It needs to be placed with the heel up and leveled.

Draw a line with a pencil on the part of the sock that goes on the ankle - straight in the middle, and raised up on the sides. The outlines of the owl's head and its ears are obtained.

An unnecessary piece of the sock is cut off along the line. Toy stuffing is placed inside the sock. The craft is sewn up again - exactly along the cutting line.

In some cases, the bottom of the sock is cut off and sewn up again. Then the owl will be more round. If this is not done, it will be oval, which also does not spoil the result too much.

Two circles of fabric are sewn onto the blank - the eyes and one triangle - the nose. Pupil beads are sewn onto the circles, eyebrows are drawn in with a marker and the craft is ready.

Original ways to use socks in everyday life

To use unwanted socks in an unusual way, you don’t need to have any crafting skills. There are several options for how to use socks with minimal transformation:

You can make a mobile case from a flat part of a sock by slightly hemming it to size.

To prevent the furniture from scratching the floor when moving, you can put colored socks on its legs and secure them with rubber bands.

By putting a special sock cover on the cup, you can keep the tea warm longer. To do this, you need to cut a hole for the handle and hem a piece of sock to fit.

The same as in the previous version can be done with flower pots. So not only the plants, but also their containers will be beautiful.

There are a lot of photos of crafts made from socks on the Internet, and these are not necessarily complex drawings that can only be made by experienced craftsmen. Sometimes you can make quite unusual decorations out of socks, almost without modifying them.

Photos of crafts made from socks

The loss of one sock from a pair is not a reason to be upset, because the remaining one can be turned into an interesting children's toy or a funny souvenir that you would not be ashamed to give to your relatives or work colleagues.

Materials for work:

  • . Socks of any color and size;
  • . Needle with thread;
  • . Buttons, sequins, beads, ready-made eyes, regular buttons and embroidery floss;
  • . Sintepon for stuffing the finished toy;
  • . A pencil or felt-tip pen that can draw lines on any material;

Do DIY toys for children made from old socks are not difficult at all, and it takes a little time. In addition, it is very interesting to watch how a cute and cute little animal is born from an ordinary sock.

DIY sock bunny

To begin with, we suggest you do something like this: a hare made from two different socks. A plain sock will serve as the basis for shaping the body, legs and head of the toy, and a colored sock will help dress it in a multi-colored outfit.

First, mark the lines on a plain sock as shown in the figure. Be careful, as both the felt-tip pen and pencil are not so easy to remove from the surface of the knitted fabric, so we only work on the wrong side of the product.

The first line cuts off the toe near the heel, and the second outlines the contours of the ears of the future hare. We allocate the remaining space to the small round tail and paws.

We cut the sock along the marked lines and form the first seams - these will be the ears. We sew the needle back with a seam by hand.

We turn the almost finished part right side out and mark the needle line with the seam forward just under the ears. For now, we don’t tighten the fabric, but create volume by stuffing each ear with synthetic padding so that they keep their shape. After this, we tighten our seam as tightly as possible.

We mark the next line with the seam forward and mark the needle in the center of the resulting workpiece. We place another small lump of padding polyester in the upper part and tighten the seam again to form the head of the toy.

And only after that we stuff the second part of the toy and form the very last bottom seam. We don’t touch the paws for now, we will sew them to the product after we put it on. We sew the back and front parts of the workpiece together exactly in the center to create the appearance of legs, and sew on a tail formed from a round part and filled with padding polyester.

Put the workpiece aside and take a colored sock to work with. We cut off the part with the heel, and lengthen the remaining sock into two parts - the narrower one will help us form a neat bow, and the wide one will help us form a dress for the bunny.

Since prehistoric times, it has been the case that men work more outside the home, feed their families, so they are often faced with the question of how dad can...

To hide the cut, fold the top of the large section by about 0.5 centimeters and secure the needle with the seam forward. We put the dress on a white blank and tighten the collar around the bunny’s neck.

We divide the short part of the colored sock into two halves and form a bow from them. To do this, we sew one part along the edges, leaving a hole on one side so that the workpiece can be turned out. We sew the parts with a back seam using a needle. We turn the part inside out and do the same with the second part. Moreover, we wrap the second part around the first and sew it clearly in the center.

We attach the finished bow between the bunny's ears.

All that remains is to sew on the paws from pieces of a white sock, and also to decorate the lower part of the dress to hide the edges of the cuts. And then you can start designing the face. For eyes, you can use either regular buttons or ready-made eyes that you can buy in a store. We embroider the mouth using floss threads, and the cheeks can be painted with regular blush, applying them with a brush or cotton swab.

DIY sock cat

But that's not all that can be done from a pair of socks. We offer you another master class, thanks to which you will turn any socks into adorable cat, symbol of wealth, good luck and good mood.

For this toy you will need two identical short socks. We take one of them and fill it completely with padding polyester, but not too tightly. Since this sock will serve as both the head and the body, we divide the padding polyester into two lumps of different sizes. First we place the larger one in the sock, and then the small one.

After this, we sew the edges of the sock in a straight line. This way you will not only secure the padding polyester inside the toy, but also form the kitten’s ears. Using a felt-tip pen or pencil, we outline the lines of the muzzle, and then embroider them with floss along the outlined contours.

If you want to sew a soft kitten or bunny, there are very simple ideas. For example, making a toy from a sock with your own hands is very simple. Try to make one of the cute souvenirs - animals or dolls. This item will be a pleasant gift for a child for any holiday.

What can be made

Making a sock toy with your own hands is quite quick and easy. Children always love to get new toys, and from socks you can easily make many different animals and funny characters. Very often, socks that are either unpaired or have large holes left in the house are impossible to mend. Put them to work. Make cute characters for your baby. These toys will appeal not only to children, but will also delight any adult. You can make the following characters from a sock:

  • Kittens.
  • Puppies.
  • Monkeys.
  • Mice.
  • Bears.
  • Funny dolls.
  • Snowman.

If the socks have colorful elastic bands with frills and decorations, they are good to use as clothing for soft friends. Such toys will not only be a pleasant gift for your baby, but also a good souvenir for the holiday.

Basic manufacturing principles

Although socks can be used to make a variety of characters, the actions performed are usually similar. There are two ways to make such a souvenir:

  1. Create a shape from a whole sock by tying threads around the junction of individual parts of the character’s body.
  2. By cutting out parts as from ordinary fabric.

The first method is easy to make a snowman or a doll, but, most often, both approaches are combined. The next two diagrams show the steps for making a puppy. In fact, any other toy is made exactly the same way. The idea is that a body with a head and hind legs (legs) is formed from one sock.

The second element of the pair is used to make the front paws or arms, as well as small parts such as ears, tail and others.

If you consider that the sock is a seamless product, you can use the folds of the parts to your advantage so that you have to grind the parts down less.

Any figure can be made using only the second method of work, that is, when all the elements are cut out as separate parts. In this case, the heel of the sock is most often taken as a muzzle.

What materials and tools will be required

So, to make an original sock toy with your own hands, prepare the following:

  • At least one sock, preferably a pair (not necessarily the same ones). The choice depends on what you want to do or what materials you have available.
  • Sintepon, cotton wool or other material for filling the toy.
  • Scissors.
  • Threads with a needle.
  • Elements of decoration and face (muzzle).

As you can see, nothing complicated. Every ordinary housewife has all this, and even more so a needlewoman, even a beginner.

What decor can be used

To make the toys you make from socks with your own hands original and effective, use the capabilities of the material itself. Socks with a suitable pattern, texture, and also for girls with all sorts of bows, frills, ruffles, and roses are especially good.

Be sure to pay attention to color combinations: stripes, ornaments, inscriptions. Some socks have rhinestone decorations. For example, the word “Love” will very appropriately decorate the chest of a bunny for Valentine’s Day.

To create the appropriate image of any character you will need eyes, nose, mouth. They are embroidered on a plane or formed into three-dimensional parts using stitches. It is also easy to buy ready-made plastic elements or take buttons and beads. On fabrics that do not have a pronounced texture (not large-knit woolen items), you can paint a face using acrylic paints. To do this, the surface is usually pre-primed. This method is more often used when making the head of a textile doll, but can also be used here.

In addition to all of the above, you can take any other decorative elements: lace, ribbons, bows, flowers, decorating with them clothes, hairstyles, tails of your animals.

DIY sock toy: master class

To make the same or a similar thing, namely a funny monkey, you need to take a pair of identical socks (if the legs and tail are made long, as in the example). Two different-colored blanks or a pair of them, where the heel and toe differ in color from the base, are also suitable. It's good if they are dark, for example, black. This option is presented in a diagram showing the details and the sewing process. Buy plastic eyes or prepare two buttons or beads.

A do-it-yourself sock toy (photo above) is made following the example of how this was done in the case of a puppy (see the section on manufacturing principles). The sequence of work will be as follows:

  1. First, fill the tip of the sock with padding polyester to the required volume and tie it or stitch it with thread.
  2. The upper part of the sock to the elastic band (it is better to cut it off, especially if it is of a different color) is cut into two parts at a distance equal to the length of the legs of the future monkey.
  3. The half-cut parts of the paws are sewn together, leaving a hole for stuffing between them.
  4. Fill the torso and legs with padding polyester and sew up the hole.

The remaining details are cut out from the second sock. It is convenient to arrange the elements as shown in the diagram below. The main thing is that the muzzle is made from the heel.

After all the pieces are cut out, sew them on the wrong side in the right places and turn them right side out. Fill the tail and front paws with padding polyester, cotton wool or whatever you have prepared, for example, leftover scraps. The ears can be left flat by connecting two parts along the contour. It is more convenient to stuff the muzzle (heel of the sock) when it is sewn to the head. The filling hole is easy to baste last.

When all the individual parts of the toy are prepared, do the following:

  1. Sew on the arms (front legs).
  2. Secure the tail.
  3. Attach a muzzle.
  4. You can make a headdress for an animal from a cut elastic band in a contrasting color.

Now you need to “revive” the character a little by adding eyes and embroidering a smile. If you are making a girl monkey, put a skirt on her or decorate her head with a bow or hairstyle using yarn of a matching color.

DIY sock toy: kitten

As you already understand, the principles for creating any characters are similar. Below are photo instructions for making another cute hero.

Such a souvenir is even easier to make, since it does not involve making the hind legs as separate parts. The animal looks like a tumbler or matryoshka. A tightly padded body part serves as the base.

Which characters are still easy to sew?

DIY socks toys can be made in the form of dolls or funny baby dolls. The photo below shows options that are made from a single sock. Only the elastic has been cut off. It is used as a beanie cap. The shape is created by making stitches.

You can make an original souvenir in the shape of a bear, wearing a hat and blouse, using the following illustration.

You can make a beautiful toy from a sock with your own hands if you use one more idea (next photo).

So, you have seen how to make a sock toy with your own hands. The master class and the photos with the manufacturing sequence will help you make such a souvenir yourself.
