Helpful and caring

You can make a very pleasant surprise for your beloved grandmother on her birthday and give an original handmade item that will serve in the house, making life more comfortable, enjoyable and joyful. Choose original ideas to please the birthday girl!

Handmade souvenirs

It’s original, beautiful and always lifts your spirits - give your beloved grandmother an unusual souvenir that will be treasured for a long time, will please the eye and give warm emotions.

Grandma will be truly happy to receive from you not just a beautiful thing, but something with soul, with love, from a pure heart. Do not regret your sincere love and care for your loved ones, especially on holidays, which happen so rarely!

On your grandmother’s birthday, you want to give not just a purchased gift, but something that will especially please her. A great option is a hand-made postcard. Such a birthday gift will be a pleasant surprise for the grandmother, speaking about the love of her grandchildren.

The simplest option is a hand-drawn postcard. Even an inept drawing with crooked letters by a small child will be dear to the grandmother. And with a little help from your parents, you can make a beautiful, neat card.

To do this you need:

Parents can help with the design: give the card an interesting shape, glue a colored base for the inscription, help the child draw letters. An older child will be interested in drawing a picture using templates, following the suggested instructions step by step: for example, a touching teddy bear, a bouquet of daisies, a birthday cake.

Simple from colored paper

Applications made from colored paper will help make the card bright and festive. A child attending kindergarten, and even more so a schoolchild, already has experience with such crafts.

To create a postcard with a bouquet of tulips, you need:

  • prepare cardboard measuring 20x24 cm for the base, colored paper, glue, scissors;
  • bend the cardboard in half to make the base of the card. If desired, you can cover it with colored paper;
  • To create tulips from colored paper, cut out petals in the form of ovals with sharp tips measuring 4x1.5 cm - for one tulip you will need three ovals of the same color. Cut straight stems from green paper;
  • on the title side, form a bouquet of 5-7 tulips. To create a tulip, three petals are glued together at the lower ends, the upper ones are moved apart to form a bud. A stem is glued to each tulip;
  • At the bottom of the stems, glue a bow of two ovals;
  • decorate the inside with a frame made of colored paper, in which a congratulation should be written. You can add a small tulip, butterfly and other decorations.

For a birthday cake card:

  • on the title side, sequentially glue three tiers of the cake - three brown rectangles with rounded upper corners measuring 10×4, 8×4, 5×3 cm;
  • stick on cake decorations - roses, diamonds, etc. - from colored paper. For a volume effect, you can use double-sided tape;
  • decorate the inside.

Postcards with voluminous flowers

Flowers are a must for grandma's birthday. They are also appropriate on a handmade postcard.

To create a voluminous bouquet, you need:

  • prepare the base of the postcard from colored cardboard folded in half;
  • fold a square of double-sided colored paper (the size corresponds to the diameter of the future flower) in half twice, and bend the resulting square diagonally;
  • in the resulting triangle, cut the top edge into a semicircle, forming the top of the petals;
  • unfold the resulting flower of eight petals. You can lightly cut the fold lines for more volume;
  • make the flowers multi-layered by cutting out blanks of different sizes and sequentially gluing them into each other;
  • Glue the resulting flowers onto the cover of the postcard only in the area of the center or one petal. Flowers can be secured to the card with threads by placing a bead in the center and sewing it on;
  • Create the stems from thin tubes of green paper. Having slightly flattened them, they are glued in the right places;
  • Cut out leaves from green paper - one per stem. The sheet is folded in half and glued in one half.

Another way to create a voluminous bouquet is to bend separately cut petals lengthwise and glue them one after another only along the fold, or one end, or one half.

Postcards with animals

To decorate your postcard, you can choose an image of a cute cat, a cartoon bear or another cute animal. Attractive images of three-dimensional animals, which are created using duplication of individual parts and double-sided three-dimensional tape.

You can draw the figure yourself, find it on the Internet and print it on a color printer, or buy a ready-made template.

To create a postcard:

  • The base for the postcard is made from thick paper or cardboard.
  • The desired background is created. For example, an outline of the grass in which the animal will sit is cut out of green paper and pasted on. You can simply use paper with a beautiful pattern, stick on multi-colored circles, sparkles, etc.;
  • The base figure is glued onto the background.
  • Duplicate parts are carefully attached to the base using double-sided tape, ensuring complete coincidence along the contour.
  • A congratulatory inscription is issued.

You can create volume without duplicating parts. For example, when depicting a bird, the wings can be attached with bulky double-sided tape. You can place a chick under these wings, or a bouquet of flowers that the bird holds with its wings.

With knitting threads

A DIY birthday card for grandma can be decorated with knitting threads. And you don’t have to know how to knit to create a card using them. They are used to lay out flowers and patterns, seal the drawn outline of a sweater with tightly laid pieces of thread, or lay the threads in the form of a frame.

To create a card with a doll applique:

A tiny ball of thread with knitting needles made of toothpicks and small beads will serve as a fun and stylish addition. The ball is attached both next to the doll and on the reverse side, under the congratulations.

What kind of card to make for a 3 year old child?

The baby will need the help of his parents, but he will take an active part in creating the card. The grandmother will definitely be delighted with the image of the child’s hand. Outline the child's hand and allow him to color it. The imprint of a small palm is touching when a child’s hand is smeared with paint and applied to paper.

A birthday card for grandma with a child's palm is carried out in several stages, described in the photo.

The baby can create a picture by drawing it with fingerprints:

  • A postcard is cut out and decorated from thick paper or cardboard.
  • A child's hand is outlined on it. You can draw another outline: a house, a heart, a sun, a daisy, etc.
  • The child colors this drawing by dipping his finger into the paint and then leaving an imprint on the paper.

The card can be more complex if you decorate it with a bouquet of balloon flowers. Squares of colored paper of different sizes and colors are rolled into balls. These balls are used to seal the outlines of flowers and vases. The baby will not be able to cope with this without the help of adults, but he will roll the balls with enthusiasm.

Quilling postcard from a child 5-6 years old and older

A DIY birthday card for grandma is made using the quilling technique. Postcards created in this style can be very colorful and beautiful. This technique requires skill and patience; it is not suitable for very young children. But at 5-6 years old, a child can create simple elements, gradually developing the skill.

Children enjoy creating flowers, cartoon characters, and funny animals from paper circles.

A postcard with a simple quilling sheep is made like this:

  • Prepare colored cardboard 20x15 cm, white paper for quilling 5 mm wide, green paper for grass, black for the face of a sheep, multi-colored for decorating the frame, scissors, a special ruler for quilling with holes of different diameters, PVA glue.
  • The outline of the grass is cut out along the upper edge of a rectangle of green paper (8x3 cm) and glued to the cardboard.
  • Seven rolls are wound from white paper onto a toothpick, unraveled to a diameter of 15 mm, and the ends of the ribbons are carefully secured.
  • The body of a sheep is formed above the upper edge of the grass - one roll in the center, the rest around.
  • A sheep's face cut out of black paper with attached eyes is glued to the top roll.
  • The sheep's legs are glued on - two black stripes from the rolls on top of the grass.
  • The image of the sheep is pasted over with a frame.
  • A congratulatory inscription is added.
  • You can additionally decorate with small clouds, balls, hearts, etc.

An older child can create a more complex image of a sheep from a large number of small rolls. A postcard with a flower arrangement will give you the feeling of a holiday.

For example, it’s easy to make a chamomile:

You can make a bouquet of chamomile or a bouquet of multi-colored flowers by adding elegantly arranged stems and leaves.

Scrapbooking card

You can use ready-made scrapbooking kits, a large selection of which are offered by specialized stores. Or you can make do with improvised materials, because there will probably be scraps, buttons, beads, artificial flowers, etc. in the house. Scrapbooking requires precision and perseverance, so children will need help.

A scrapbooking postcard in the shape of a kitchen apron looks cute and touching:

A teapot, apple, candy, etc. postcard is made in a similar way. Flat envelope boxes made using the scrapbooking technique look interesting.

Anniversary card for grandma

A DIY birthday card for grandma is a worthy gift. And an anniversary is a special date. It's worth taking the time to make a complex card with a three-dimensional opening design.

To create it:

  • A sheet of thick colored paper is folded in half to make a postcard measuring 18x12 cm.
  • From the fold side in the center of the card, make two parallel cuts 3 cm deep at a distance of 2 cm from each other. The resulting rectangle is pressed inward and bent so that when the postcard is opened, this fragment rises. Similarly, two more fragments are cut out - on the left and on the right, retreating 2 cm from the edge, 1 cm deep and 1.5 cm wide. Now, when opening the postcard, three steps rise in it - a large one and two smaller ones.
  • Cut out figures are glued to the vertical part of these steps. This could be an image of a birthday cake, balloons, a bouquet of flowers, cartoon characters, etc. It is important that they are bright, beautiful and durable. For example, a large birthday cake is glued to the central step, and small bundles of multi-colored balloons are glued to the sides. Or in the center there is a figurine of Winnie the Pooh, and on the sides are Eeyore and Piglet. When opening the postcard, these figures will take a vertical position.
  • Then they draw up an inscription congratulating you on the anniversary. The inside of the card is complete.
  • To make the outer part, a sheet of thick colored cardboard measuring 20x28 cm is folded in half.
  • The volumetric part is carefully glued inside.
  • The title side of the postcard is made using quilling, scrapbooking or other techniques.

Original ideas for cards from your granddaughter

If the grandmother has already taught her granddaughter to knit, sew, embroider, then she will be doubly pleased to see her granddaughter’s handicrafts on a greeting card. For example, you can sew a small but very elegant dress from bright fabric, decorate it with lace, beads, etc., and use it as decoration on a postcard using the scrapbooking technique.

Do the same with a tiny knitted item - for example, decorate a card with a small crocheted lace doily or make beautiful embroidery and place it on the cardboard base of the card. Grandma will show this postcard to everyone she knows, proud of her handicraft granddaughter.

Postcard ideas from grandson

A grandson can please his grandmother no less. If he is interested in wood carving, then a board with a wooden bouquet of flowers will be a very expensive gift for his grandmother. This could be an engraving, or a drawing burned into wood, or a clay bas-relief postcard.

Or you can make an unusual paper card:

  • fold a strip of thick paper 10x35 cm like an accordion - the length of one section is 7 cm;
  • decorate the title part of the postcard with applique or other means;
  • Place wishes, drawings, applications on the inside pages, or stick a grandmother’s photograph on each fold of the accordion;
  • attach two ribbon ties or secure the accordion with a beautiful clip. The postcard is ready.

It is worth paying attention to the apartment or house where your grandmother lives; perhaps she has her own style that she adheres to. There are also gifts in certain styles: classic, empire, modern and much more. Moreover, the same style can be performed using a variety of techniques. Embroidery in the Art Nouveau style can be an ideal gift for a grandmother whose interior is in this style.

In order to perform such a composition you need:

1) Draw a heart on the cardboard with a pencil, using a neat, thin and non-greasy line;

2) Pierce holes at equal distances with a needle;

3) We stretch the blue thread from one puncture to another, making sure that the punctures are located strictly opposite and as a result the threads should intersect approximately in the center of the application. We work through each puncture in this way, alternating the threads in random order;

4) Take one of the colors, at work it is yellow, stretch it with this color so that you get a rim for the applique. To do this, we connect adjacent punctures, retreating an equal number of punctures from each other.

The finished work can be framed or presented as a gift inside a postcard.

Making a hedgehog using the oshibana technique.

We will definitely paint the face of the future hedgehog and draw some grass. Now the most important thing is to glue the leaves. To make the leaf needles look better, you need to start gluing the leaves from the back of the hedgehog. We glue the leaves in neat arcs; you can lay one leaf on another so that the needles are fluffy. The grass can also be decorated with leaves, but they should be different from the leaves that are already on the hedgehog. Allow the work to dry thoroughly and you can put the gift aside until the ceremonial presentation.

beloved grandmother - this is a very important day. Perhaps not so much for herself as for her grandchildren. After all, on this holiday I want to do something nice for her, to thank her for her warmth and care: to congratulate her in a way that will please her, make her happy. Even if a gift has already been invented, a handmade postcard will be an excellent addition to it. This homemade card will contain the best wishes and warm words addressed to your grandmother.

And to make it and decorate it beautifully, you only need a little imagination, desire and patience. The little ones can simply draw a picture and print a few words in block letters, while older grandchildren are quite capable of creating something more complex.

So what kind of card can you come up with for your beloved grandmother?

Firstly, like any woman, of course, she loves flowers. Here are some easy to make floral themed cards.

Cards with flowers

  • Bouquet in a vase. This is very easy to do and looks lovely. We will need beautiful and thick colored cardboard, colored paper, and glue. On a cardboard base we draw the outlines of a vase and a bouquet of flowers.

Then the colored paper is cut into squares of different sizes and rolled into balls. These will be flowers. We fill the outline of the bouquet with multi-colored balls - you get very cute fluffy flowers. The base is red roses, other flowers are made smaller.

The vase itself is also laid out with balls so that the entire card is voluminous, but the balls should be one color (or two colors) and smaller. You can weave a napkin from thinly cut strips and glue it under the base of the vase. That's all.

It turned out to be a beautiful bouquet for grandma.

  • Bouquet in hand. To create a postcard you will need thick colored paper, double-sided colored cardboard and glue. First, we make a bouquet by cutting out flowers of any shape from colored cardboard - tulips, roses, daisies - what grandma loves. You don’t need many colors; three look good in this composition. We cut out stems and leaves from green cardboard and carefully glue everything together. The bouquet is ready.

Then, on beige or soft pink paper, draw a hand (you can simply trace your own palm with a pencil). We cut out the silhouette of the hand and glue the nails to the fingers. From colored paper we make a cuff with a cufflink, like a shirt, and glue it to the handle. Now we bend our fingers and put the bouquet in them.

Very original and touching, especially if the gift is from kids.

The second option is that the hand can hold not just a bouquet, but a basket of flowers, then it will have to be cut out additionally.

It turned out very unusual: if the card is closed, then there are flowers in a cup on it, and when opening it, you can see a bouquet and warm congratulations.

Another technique for creating volume is bending parts. That is, the petal needs to be cut out and bent lengthwise, and either one half or just the fold should be glued.

Cards with flowers can be made not only from paper; any type of applique will do. Bouquets made from beautiful colored buttons, beads, or scraps of fabric look great.

The main thing is the flight of imagination!

What else can we think of besides flowers? To do this, you need to remember what your grandmother likes to do, what she is interested in or was interested in before.

Hobby cards

By the way, thick threads are an excellent material for any applique. You can use them to lay out flowers and various beautiful patterns, having previously drawn them with a pencil. It just takes a little patience to glue the threads neatly.

Surely not only the grandmother, but also the younger generation also developed their own hobbies. If your granddaughter has already learned to knit or embroider, then you can make a card with knitted details, decorate it with lace or embroidery.

A handicraft granddaughter will greatly delight her grandmother with such a postcard-gift, and she will keep it for a long, long time. Or even hang it on the wall so you can admire it more often.

A grandson who knows how to burn or saw wood can try and create a wooden postcard, which will also become beloved and unforgettable. A clay postcard painted with paints is an option for a young sculptor.

Or you can just try and write poems for your grandmother on the simplest postcard. It may not turn out very professionally, but it will be sincere and from the heart. If you read them out loud at your birthday party, grandma will be very pleased.

After all, the main thing is to give your beloved grandmother warmth and attention on this holiday, showing how needed and loved she is.
